Bio: Meet Evelyn Garcia, a Maintenance Technician Apprentice at C&W Services' Site SBD6. A recent graduate of Chaffey College, Evelyn has been leveraging her education to advance her career and make a meaningful impact at C&W Services.

What is your favorite thing about working here? My favorite aspect of working here is the strong sense of community and culture. Everyone on the team is kind and treats each other with respect and equality. I've gained a great deal from the hands-on apprentice program and am eager to continue honing my skills in an environment that values inclusivity and diversity. C&W Services has demonstrated its commitment to my professional growth by providing specialized training sessions, which is a level of support I haven't experienced elsewhere in my career.

Can you tell me about the technical skills you've learned in your two months here, especially in advanced manufacturing? Initially, we focused extensively on red tag validation exercises. We utilized a tool called ICW to organize our tasks, serving as a comprehensive roadmap for our work, detailed in spreadsheets. Collaborating closely as a team, we took the initiative to navigate these processes step by step. This experience has been invaluable to my learning journey, and I am excited to see what comes next.

How did your time at Chaffey College prepare you for this role? My education at Chaffey College provided me with a solid foundation of knowledge that I apply daily. It’s rewarding to participate in discussions and think, 'I remember learning about that!' While I grasp the theoretical/ classroom concepts, I am excited to gain more hands-on experience. This practical application is the next exciting step in my professional development.

Bio: Alden Garcia is currently a Maintenance Technician Apprentice at Site SBD6 for C&W Services. Despite having been with the company for just over two months, Alden has already demonstrated a talent for innovation and problem-solving. He is deeply engaged in the nodes of mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering. Looking ahead, Alden is eager to leverage his skills to make a significant impact in the tech industry. Whether it’s leading projects, mentoring others, or taking on management roles, he is ready to tackle any challenge with passion and determination!

How did you hear about C&W Services? I first heard about C&W Services at a Career Event at Chaffey College. A few hiring managers and someone from the Talent Acquisition team came to the school to discuss open opportunities within their site. During the initial presentation, one of the hiring managers asked a question to the audience. Luckily, I successfully answered one of the questions and earned a free T-shirt along with an on-site interview. This is where I met my current manager, Joshua Gonzalez, and we’ve had a great working relationship since then. I passed the interview and am now here as an MRA.

Wow! How awesome is that! Please tell me about your onboarding experience. I’ve learned a lot in such a short time. Once I completed the online training, I immediately began getting hands-on experience on the floor. The on-the-job training was very helpful and easy to grasp, and my manager was resourceful in guiding me through the onboarding process.

Can you tell me about your experience with the culture at C&W Services? The culture at C&W Services feels genuinely supportive. I come from a family of five siblings, being the youngest, so I understand the importance of a strong sense of brotherhood. Our workplace includes various personalities, but we all share common goals. This supportive but intense atmosphere facilitates open communication and collaboration. We even share meals sometimes, which breaks down the usual strict hierarchy you see in other industries, making us feel like a tight-knit community where everyone is respected.

Do you see yourself growing in this role? What are your career aspirations from here? Yes, I see myself striving to put my best foot forward every day and growing as much as I can within this role. My next goal is to become a Tech III and from there, hopefully, move into a leadership role. It is very encouraging to see a clear and attainable career path.

What advice do you give someone applying for your role? Knowing why you're choosing a career path is important. For me, it's about improving life for myself and my family. That's what keeps me motivated and always pushing to do better. I'm committed to working hard because I believe there's always room for improvement and a brighter future.
