Job Description Summary
The Maintenance Utility Technician I is an entry-level, hands-on role dedicated to supporting the operations and maintenance team in ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable functioning of facilities and equipment. This role provides assistance with routine maintenance, preventive tasks, and basic troubleshooting while learning and developing technical skills across mechanical, electrical, and building systems. The Maintenance Utility Technician I contributes to team success by performing assigned tasks accurately and safely, gaining experience, and building a foundation for growth within the facilities maintenance field.
Job Description
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION & JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Technical, vocational, or on-the-job training in at least one of the following areas: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, building construction, and plumbing
- 1-2 years of related experience in facility maintenance
- Current valid driver's license with clean record. (commercial license may be required)
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word
- One (1) or more years of experience using work order management systems (CMMS)
- Current EPA certification or the ability and commitment to obtain certification
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Must pass criminal background check and drug screen

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

- Learn and develop technical and mechanical skills through on-the-job training and mentorship
- Assist with troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of building systems, including air compressors, plumbing, basic electrical, HVAC systems, roofs, drains, shop equipment, grounds equipment, and other facility assets
- Support installation, modification, and maintenance of building equipment and systems
- Review, create, and maintain assigned work orders, including associated documentation, within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Replace and repair building finishes, such as ceiling tiles, door hardware, wallpaper, and painted surfaces on walls, piping, floors, and equipment
- Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment for unsafe or malfunctioning conditions, and perform reactive and preventive maintenance as required
- Maintain and operate fire and life safety systems, including fire alarms, fire pumps, and related fire protection equipment
- Demonstrate competent knowledge in the use and care of tools and equipment used in facility and grounds maintenance
- Identify, coordinate, and work with outside contractors or vendors from sourcing and quotation to job completion
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and customer service requests as assigned
- Utilize technology effectively, including smartphones, tablets, computers, web-based applications, and building automation systems
- Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency requirements, and company policies related to building operations and safety practices
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to company dress code while on property or performing assigned duties
- Willingly accepts and assists with all assigned tasks, demonstrating flexibility, accountability, and a team-first mindset.
- Articulate notes and record time for completed tasks at the time of completion.
WORK ENVIRONMENT – PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This role operates in a professional office environment as well as industrial oil field type environments both indoors and outside during hot and cold climates. This role routinely uses maintenance tools and personnel lifts and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers to accomplish tasks. Extend hands and arms in multiple directions to perform tasks, Lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to fifty pounds. May be the only maintenance staff member on duty during certain shifts; may be required to work extended periods of time without relief when responding to priority / emergency situations (including overtime type assignments); may require shift work and / or stand-by on-call duties. The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role. The compensation for the position is: $20.00 - $23.00
