Job Description Summary
Job Description
Operations Manager – Business Rates
Birmingham | Hybrid – 3 days per week in the office
We have an exciting opportunity to join our successful and growing Business Rates team in Birmingham as an Operations Manager.
This role has become available following an internal promotion and would be particularly well suited to someone currently working in Business Rates administration, operations or data who is ready to take the next step in their career.
You don’t need to already be an Operations Manager. We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of accurate data, strong processes and well-run systems, and who is keen to develop within a high-performing Rating team.
The opportunity
Working closely with our Head of Operations and the wider Business Rates team, you’ll play an important role in ensuring our operational processes and data are accurate, efficient and consistently maintained.
The role offers exposure across the Business Rates operation, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and develop your career as the team continues to grow.
Your responsibilities will include:
Maintaining accurate client and property data across our Rating systems
Supporting the mobilisation and onboarding of new client contracts
Managing and monitoring Business Rates information, including Rateable Value changes
Supporting Government Gateway claims and associated administration
Managing incoming Valuation Office Agency and Scottish Assessor queries
Overseeing Forms of Return processes
Processing CCA and appeal settlements
Producing and distributing variance reports to account teams
Supporting the team's invoicing and financial administration processes
Maintaining operational and process documentation
Supporting system changes, upgrades and wider operational projects
Identifying opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
Supporting audit, compliance and data-quality requirements
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll already have experience within Business Rates, perhaps in an Administrator, Coordinator, Operations or similar role, and be looking for an opportunity to progress.
You’ll be:
Highly organised and comfortable working with large volumes of data
Detail-focused, with a strong emphasis on data accuracy
Process-driven and interested in finding better ways of working
Confident using systems and spreadsheets
Comfortable coordinating across different teams and stakeholders
Able to manage competing priorities and deadlines
Keen to learn, take on greater responsibility and progress your career
Experience with Rating systems such as Riverlake, RatesData or Realise would be advantageous, but we’re equally interested in people with strong relevant Business Rates experience who can learn our systems.
Why join us?
Our Birmingham Rating team has been growing successfully, creating genuine opportunities for people to develop and progress. This vacancy itself has arisen through an internal promotion, and we’re looking for someone who wants the opportunity to follow a similar path.
You’ll join an established team, gain broad exposure across Business Rates operations and have the opportunity to develop your responsibilities as your experience grows.
The role is based in our Birmingham office with hybrid working, typically three days per week in the office.
