Job Description

Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an Assistant Building Manager to work closely with the Building Manager in overseeing the day-to-day management of a trophy building in the heart of the city. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and customer-focused facilities professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong relationships with occupiers, clients, contractors, and colleagues. The role offers exposure to all aspects of building management, including compliance, operational performance, financial management, sustainability initiatives, and occupier engagement.

Core Responsibilities

  • Support the Building Manager in the daily operational management of commercial properties.

  • Coordinate planned, reactive, and emergency maintenance activities using CAFM systems.

  • Manage occupier queries and ensure prompt, professional communication and resolution.

  • Assist with maintaining legal and statutory compliance, including health and safety obligations.

  • Monitor contractor performance, ensuring adherence to company procedures and health and safety standards.

  • Support property inspections and maintain accurate records through risk management systems.

  • Raise purchase orders, process invoices, and assist with budget management and service charge administration.

  • Contribute to the management of risk assessments, audits, emergency planning, and business continuity activities.

  • Support sustainability reporting and the maintenance of environmental performance data.

  • Assist with insurance claims, complaint resolution, and stakeholder communications.

  • Provide cover for the Building Manager during periods of absence.

  • Foster positive relationships with clients, occupiers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver a best-in-class customer experience.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven experience within Facilities Management, Property Management, or Building Management.

  • Strong understanding of performance-based contracts and service delivery standards.

  • Experience working collaboratively with property, finance, and operational teams.

  • Knowledge of budget monitoring, cost control, and service charge management.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong client and occupier relationships.

  • Experience managing contractors and service partners to achieve operational objectives.

  • Understanding of current legislation and compliance requirements relevant to commercial property management.

  • Working knowledge of CAFM systems and electronic logbook platforms.

  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting the development of colleagues.

  • Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications & Education

  • IWFM Level 3 Certificate (or equivalent) desirable.

  • IOSH Health & Safety qualification.

  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as IWFM.

  • AssocRICS qualification desirable.

  • Relevant facilities, property, or building management education and professional development are advantageous.
