Position Summary: The Engineer Lead role will give you the opportunity to expand your skills and experience working on mission critical infrastructure facilities operations for the largest wholesale data center provider in the world. This position serves as the technical and operational leader for a team of two Maintenance Technicians supporting three locations in Secaucus, NJ. The role requires balancing hands-on technical responsibilities with supervisory duties, workforce planning, vendor coordination, and operational excellence across multiple locations. Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

As an Engineer Lead you’ll work with your peers to ensure coverage 365 days per year, 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. You’ll spend most of your days on a variety of interesting activities, including walking the facility and inspecting infrastructure systems, performing routine maintenance, supervising the facility, assessing needs, monitoring construction projects, and completing repairs as needed. You will also help to gather information and take readings to fill in the parameters on daily spreadsheets. The service you provide will be to the underlying support systems (power, cooling, etc.) for customers’ computers, so you will not be expected to do any computer maintenance—the customers do that for themselves.

Some specific responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring building infrastructure systems.
  • Provide direct supervision, leadership, and technical guidance to two Maintenance Technicians.
  • Assign, prioritize, and coordinate daily work activities to ensure operational coverage, completion of preventive maintenance, and timely response to facility issues.
  • Use and monitor numerous facilities tracking programs such as but not limited to CMMS (Famis 360), regulatory schedules, incident management programs, training matrix, etc.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing building infrastructure systems with a focus on HVAC systems and electrical systems.
  • Monitor technician productivity, work quality, and compliance with maintenance procedures, safety requirements, and company policies.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, coaching, cross-training, and ongoing development of Maintenance Technicians.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for Maintenance Technicians during operational incidents, equipment failures, and emergency situations.
  • Partner with management on scheduling, resource allocation, time-off coordination, and overtime planning to ensure adequate site coverage.
  • Provide input on employee performance evaluations, development opportunities, and corrective action processes when necessary.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement throughout the maintenance team.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on all building equipment.
  • Preparing Change Management Forms and Methods of Procedure (MOPs).
  • Scheduling maintenance procedures with vendors.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and use of protective equipment.
  • Responding quickly to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure etc.) and customer concerns as needed.
  • Field emergency calls in the event of incidents related to the critical infrastructure, provide oversight and assistance on how best to remediate such incidents, and seeing all remediation efforts through to completion.
  • Participate in facilities inspections and conditions assessments, asset data validation within CMMS including schedule and task planning
  • Provide engineering oversight to the AMD Business Units at locations that are undergoing new build outs or being renovated. This includes reviewing Architectural and MEP plans for adding or upgrading new equipment, infrastructure, building improvements, and the like, interface with applicable building management and operational staff, provide technical guidance and leadership, interact with contracted labor and vendors

Key Competencies:

  • An understanding of computer systems, and skill with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to follow instructions and processes precisely and carefully.

Education:

  • An associate's degree (AA/AS) or an equivalent combination of education and experience; data center experience is strongly preferred.
  • A trade license or certification acquired through technical education/training

Important Experience:

  • Experience working with mission critical data equipment, and the willingness to work in a fast-paced, mission critical environment.
  • Strong HVAC, mechanical, and electrical skills and experience.

Additional Qualifications:

· Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving record

· Basic Computing Skills in Outlook, Excel & Word

· The willingness to work at least one weekend per month, and unscheduled overtime as needed to complete projects or break-fixes.

· The ability to walk around a good deal of the time to perform inspections, to do some work outdoors in the weather if needed, and to lift heavy objects.

· Data center experience a plus.

Keys to Success:

This is a technical job and it is heavy on the electrical side, but there are a number of diverse pieces to doing the job well. To excel in this role you will need an understanding of HVAC, electrical, large chillers, diesel generators, cooling towers, UPS systems, large batteries, and more. You may be in front of customers, so you’ll also need to be able to present yourself well and have great communication skills. You will complete certain reports, so you’ll need enough knowledge of computers to create and update reports in Word and Excel. To complete the reports, you will also need the ability to gather information. This hands-on role will take much more than just experience with rounds and readings. In addition, to be an outstanding Facility Engineer, you will:

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.

The compensation for the position is: $57.21 - $67.31
