Job Description Summary

The Critical Facilities Technician supports the safe, reliable operation of mission-critical data center infrastructure in a 24/7 environment. This role is responsible for monitoring, operating, maintaining, and documenting electrical, mechanical, and building systems across day, swing, and night shifts while following approved procedures, safety standards, and escalation protocols.

Job Description

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure, including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, and related equipment.

  • Use BMS, EPMS, and DCIM platforms to monitor system performance, identify alarms, and respond promptly to abnormal operating conditions.
  • Complete preventive and corrective maintenance tasks according to approved maintenance schedules, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Execute Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) accurately and consistently.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues, support incident response, and escalate conditions that may affect uptime, safety, or service continuity.
  • Coordinate and oversee vendor work to confirm activities are completed safely, professionally, and in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, equipment readings, maintenance records, and incident documentation.
  • Follow all site safety requirements, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, arc flash, and OSHA-related procedures.
  • Perform routine rounds, inspections, and equipment checks to verify proper operation and identify potential issues before they affect service.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and minor project work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in data center operations, critical facilities, industrial maintenance, or a related technical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a live data center, hospital, utility, manufacturing, or other mission-critical environment.
  • Hands-on experience with UPS systems, generators, switchgear, HVAC equipment, or building automation systems.
  • Certifications such as CDCTP, CDCP, OSHA 10/30, electrical safety, HVAC, or other relevant technical credentials.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, integrated systems testing, or emergency response drills.

Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems used in critical environments.

Ability to use monitoring platforms such as BMS, EPMS, or DCIM to review system status and respond to alerts.

Ability to read and interpret basic electrical one-line diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical procedures.

Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Familiarity with applicable safety and industry standards, including NFPA, NEC,

OSHA, and site-specific procedures.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a shift-based operations environment.

Willingness and ability to work day, swing, or night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Relevant technical training, trade experience, military experience, or equivalent hands-on experience in facilities operations.
