This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced carpenter or tradesperson looking to transition from hands-on site work into an office-based estimating and project coordination position. You may currently be working in a supervisory role, running your own carpentry business, or looking for the next step in your career. You will be responsible for pricing and coordinating maintenance and minor project work across our corporate clients' property portfolios, working closely with clients, trades teams and subcontractors.

About the Role
Cushman & Wakefield is seeking an experienced Carpentry Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join our Hamilton Trades team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced construction professional with a strong background in estimating, pricing, quantity surveying, carpentry, or general building works.
You will be responsible for preparing commercially sound estimates and quotations for carpentry, building maintenance, refurbishment and minor construction works, working closely with clients, trades teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
The role offers an opportunity to bring your construction knowledge into an estimating-focused position while working as part of a supportive and experienced team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimates, pricing, tenders, cost plans and quotations for carpentry and general building works.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation.
- Assess labour, materials, subcontractor and other project costs.
- Develop commercially sound pricing, including margins and project profitability.
- Price maintenance, refurbishment, fit-out and small-to-medium commercial projects.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal trades teams.
- Support project coordination, cost control and variations.
- Manage multiple estimates and priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Assist with procurement, subcontractor pricing and supplier engagement.
- Maintain accurate estimating and job costing documentation.
- Build strong client and stakeholder relationships.
About You
We're looking for an experienced construction professional who has:
- Minimum 10 years' experience within the New Zealand building and construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of carpentry, general building works, construction methodologies, materials and building systems.
- Proven experience in estimating, pricing, tendering, cost planning and quotation preparation.
- Strong commercial understanding of labour, materials, subcontractor costs, margins and project profitability.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work and contract documentation.
- Strong Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook skills, along with estimating or job management software experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple estimates, priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and make sound commercial decisions.
- Professional presentation and a strong customer service focus.
Highly Desirable
- Quantity Surveying experience, particularly across carpentry, building maintenance or general construction.
- Experience pricing maintenance, refurbishment, fit-out, insurance or small-to-medium commercial projects.
- Experience in project coordination, contract administration, site supervision or construction management.
- Experience managing subcontractors, supplier procurement and project cost control.
- Understanding of New Zealand building regulations, codes and industry standards.
