The Future of Youth in Skilled Trades

Youth3

At Cushman & Wakefield, we are visionaries that build strong foundations—not just in the spaces we manage, but in the careers we help shape. That's why we were especially proud to participate in the 2025 SkillsUSA National Leadership & Skills Conference (NLSC) for our third consecutive year. As the nation's largest gathering of career and technical education talent, the event took place from June 23–27, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia, where youth, educators, and advisors gathered from around the country.
Representing our team were Elizabeth Harris, Skilled Trades Learning and Development Manager, and Roger Collins, Senior Workforce Planning and Apprenticeship Specialist. Their presence at the event reflected our ongoing commitment to workforce development and our support for the next generation of skilled professionals.

Connecting with the Next Generation of Talent
As exhibitors at the conference, Roger and Elizabeth engaged with students, educators, and industry leaders to share insights into career pathways at Cushman & Wakefield. They highlighted our apprenticeship programs, learning and development initiatives, and the many opportunities available in facilities management and skilled trades.

Elizabeth also joined Dennis the Apprentice on the Trade Traction Podcast that encourages youth to pursue jobs in the trades. Elizabeth discussed the importance of mentorship, the evolving landscape of technical careers, and how Cushman & Wakefield is investing in future talent. Her message was clear: “We’re not just hiring for roles—we’re building careers.”

Celebrating Excellence in the Trades
One of the most inspiring moments of the week was witnessing a live trades competitions, where students demonstrated their skills in building structures, electrical wiring, welding and HVAC systems. “The level of talent and dedication we saw was incredible,” said Roger. “These young professionals are the future of our industry.”

The NLSC also featured the SkillsUSA Championships, where over 6,500 state champions competed in 114 skilled and leadership contests. From carpentry and HVAC to robotics, facilities management and team leadership, the event was a powerful reminder of the value and versatility of skilled trades.

Engaging the Community
We were thrilled to see such strong interest in our work and mission—119 attendees signed up for our Skilled Trades Newsletter, eager to stay connected and learn more about careers at Cushman & Wakefield. As a token of appreciation, we also held a giveaway where 25 lucky participants won a Cushman & Wakefield multitool—something practical they can carry with them as they build their careers.

Why It Matters
Events like SkillsUSA are more than just competitions—they’re a celebration of potential. They provide a platform for students to showcase their abilities, connect with employers, and envision a future in high-demand industries.
At Cushman & Wakefield, we’re proud to support these efforts. Whether through apprenticeships, mentorship, or continued learning, we’re committed to helping individuals grow their careers and make a lasting impact in the built environment.
