Based at Amazon’s Huntley Illinois RFD2 fulfillment center, Brandon Wallace is an exceptional mechatronics and robotics (MRA) apprentice at Cushman & Wakefield. After graduation from high school, Brandon found himself reconsidering his academic path due to the high cost of college. “Every college ended up being like 30 to 40 K and I didn't want to go into…big financial debt.” In his search for career opportunities, Brandon discovered the Cushman & Wakefield MRA apprenticeship program which blends academic learning with hands-on experience. After his 12-week related technical instruction at Vincennes University in mechatronics, he is now completing his on-the-job competencies at Amazon. “Once you get your education in mechatronics then you start adding that experience at the Amazon facility.” In addition to his apprenticeship, Brandon is studying industrial management at the College of DuPage positioning himself for a management role at Amazon. “I also have been running a 3D printing business while working there.”
Brandon Highlights Two Key Benefits of His Apprenticeship:
Practical Experience
He is working in a professional setting while studying coursework that directly relates to his job. “The industrial side is getting me a lot of knowledge and…the education was a great experience overall.”
The ‘Earn and Learn’ Model
One of the biggest advantages is being paid while you learn and having 12 weeks of classroom training fully funded. “You don't have to worry about the financial aspect while in school. You can just focus on learning the material.” Brandon goes on to say, “I was trying to consider different options and the apprenticeship programs… would send me to school for free and I thought that was a great opportunity.”
His Advice to Those Considering an Apprenticeship with Cushman & Wakefield?
“Make sure you’re… interest in fixing things and working with your hands. If that interests [you] it would definitely be a great step to… into a more stable career.” Brandon continues “With the education in mechatronics and then experience at the Amazon facility, you're going to be able to write your own ticket.”
Brandon’s experience showcases the value of the Cushman & Wakefield apprenticeship program: it’s not just about gaining a degree – it’s about becoming an integral part of a leading global corporation while building a career from day one.
