Career Growth Within Cushman & Wakefield: A Journey of Learning, Adaptation, and Leadership

FINAL Sam Codie

At Cushman & Wakefield, career growth is about much more than climbing the corporate ladder—it’s about gaining new skills, embracing fresh challenges, and contributing to the organization’s success in meaningful ways. . As co-authors of this article, we are excited to share our personal career journeys within the company. Our paths have been unique, but both of us have found that C&W offers the space to learn, grow, and take on new challenges.

Codie’s Journey: From HR Advisor to Recruiter

I began my journey with Cushman & Wakefield in October 2022, stepping into the role of Human Resource Advisor. My responsibilities were varied right from the start, with an initial focus on processing one-time payments and referral bonuses. This gave me a solid grounding in the financial side of HR, and I quickly learned how these elements tie into the larger HR framework.

After a short time, I transitioned to the Leave team, where I managed Leave of Absence cases for internal employees. This role was especially rewarding because it allowed me to support my colleagues during crucial times in their lives. It felt fulfilling to be a part of their journey, ensuring they received the right assistance and guidance during those important moments.

Next, I moved to the Hires team, where I began processing corporate hires, onboarding summer interns, and handling GOS accounts. This was a period of tremendous growth, as I navigated the intricacies of hiring processes and compliance requirements. I later expanded my expertise to include processing CWS and Multifamily hires, which broadened my understanding of recruitment across various sectors.

It was during my time on the Hires team that I realized my passion for recruiting. I worked closely with recruiters, assisting them with new hires, and seeing how the recruitment process unfolded sparked a true interest in the field. In December 2023, I made a pivotal decision to transition into a recruiter role, where I now focus on skilled trades. This role allows me to connect talented individuals with opportunities that match their skills, helping them grow in their careers while contributing to C&W’s success.

Sam’s Journey: From Agency Recruiter to Talent Acquisition Manager

My path to Cushman & Wakefield was a bit more unconventional. After multiple applications and interviews, I joined the Skilled Trades Team as an Associate Recruiter in May 2021. The transition from agency recruiting to the corporate world was challenging, but it was a challenge I embraced. I quickly discovered my passion for internal recruiting—helping to find talent that drives organizational success and has a meaningful impact on people’s careers.

In April 2022, I was promoted to Senior Recruiter, and with that promotion came expanded responsibilities. I began leading calls, managing minor escalations, and supporting my teammates’ growth. While this role was incredibly rewarding, it also taught me the importance of effective time management as I balanced these increased responsibilities.

By October 2022, I moved to C&W Services to support the largest account as an interim Team Lead. In May 2023, I officially became Team Lead, and it was during this time that I discovered my passion for people leadership. Watching my team grow and succeed became incredibly fulfilling, even as I navigated the challenges of a demanding client and a work-life balance.

In May 2024, I took a brief break to deepen my knowledge in corporate functions, executive roles, and the IT space. When I returned in September 2024, I rejoined the Skilled Trades Team as a Talent Acquisition Manager. It felt like coming home, and I’m excited to continue supporting my team and driving success through strategic recruitment.

Conclusion: Embracing Growth and Opportunity

Our stories are a testament to the opportunities for growth and development at Cushman & Wakefield.
