POSITION OVERVIEW
The Shift Engineer performs scheduled inspections, BMS monitoring, preventive maintenance, vendor escorts, operational logging, alarm verification and first-line incident response within the data centre. The role maintains accurate records, monitors critical M&E and cooling systems, and supports safe and stable operations under the direction of the Shift Lead or Facilities Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on M&E facilities experience, strong attention to detail and disciplined adherence to approved MOP, SOP, EOP, PTW, access-control and safety requirements.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Complete inspections and records: Perform all scheduled routine inspections, record findings accurately, complete daily forms, update problem and defect records, maintain the Check & Confirm list, and file required records.
· Monitor BMS and environment: Continuously monitor BMS, data hall temperature and humidity, and critical areas; record readings at the required frequency and immediately report abnormal trends.
· Monitor critical plant: Check chilled-water supply temperature, condenser-water pumps, cooling towers, associated plant and required duty/standby configurations; report abnormal temperature, pressure, flow, vibration, noise, leakage, smell or behaviour.
· Perform maintenance safely: Carry out assigned PPM within the approved schedule and in accordance with MOP, SOP, maintenance requirements, PTW, risk controls, PPE and authorised competency limits.
· Support vendor and contractor work: Escort and monitor works through completion, enforce access and safety requirements, and confirm the area and systems are returned to normal condition.
· Respond to alarms and incidents: Acknowledge BMS alarms, conduct physical verification, report failures and critical alarms through the MY01 Critical Lark group, and contact the approved standby number when additional support is required.
· Maintain event and handover information: Create event logs from initial detection to closure, prepare complete shift handover reports, synchronise operational updates before shift end, and communicate outstanding matters clearly.
· Enforce access control: Prevent unauthorised access to restricted or delivery areas, ensure critical doors are not left open or unattended, and report access concerns immediately.
· Maintain facility condition: Keep plantrooms, data halls, electrical rooms and operational areas orderly; identify and report leaks, overheating, unusual noise, obstruction or other abnormal conditions.
· Support recovery and instructions: Assist emergency response, troubleshooting, isolation, recovery and stabilisation under the direction of the Shift Lead or Facilities Supervisor and respond promptly to assigned operational requirements.

KEY SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES
§ Hands-on understanding of critical M&E systems, BMS alarms, data hall environmental monitoring and cooling plant operation.
§ Ability to perform inspections, record readings, identify abnormalities and complete accurate operational documentation.
§ Working knowledge of PPM, MOP, SOP, EOP, PTW, PPE, access control and safe working requirements.
§ Practical troubleshooting, alarm verification, incident escalation and emergency response capability.
§ Good shift handover, electronic log, event log and defect tracking skills.
§ Clear communication, teamwork, discipline and attention to detail in a 24x7 critical environment.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
§ 2+ years of experience in data centre, critical facilities, building services or mission-critical M&E operations.
§ Relevant diploma, trade or technical qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services, Facilities Engineering or a related discipline.
§ Experience with BMS monitoring, routine inspections, PPM, vendor escorts and operational records is preferred.
§ Relevant safety, electrical, mechanical, data centre or emergency response certifications are advantageous.
§ Able to work shifts, support emergency activities and comply with site access, safety and operational procedures.
