Education & Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing preferred.

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in a data center or critical facility environment.

  • Proven leadership experience managing teams of engineers or technicians in a high-availability setting.

  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and electrical systems, standards, and regulations.

Licenses & Certifications

  • EPA Universal Certification (CFCs) required.

  • Additional certifications such as Journeyman or Master Electrician, High Pressure Boiler License, or Refrigeration Certificate of Fitness are a plus.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of Operating Engineers in a mission-critical data center environment.

  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, building codes, and regulatory standards.

  • Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and energy management systems.

  • Conduct regular inspections of equipment including chillers, CRAC units, cooling towers, pumps, and generators.

  • Respond to and resolve emergency situations and system failures with urgency and precision.

  • Implement and optimize preventive maintenance programs to ensure uptime and reliability.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.

  • Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities and operational improvements.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and team management skills in a high-pressure, 24/7 operational environment.

  • Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnostics of complex building systems.

  • Familiarity with smart technologies, tablets, and web-based maintenance platforms.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., work in varying weather conditions, and respond to after-hours emergencies.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Operates in a professional data center and office environment.

  • Regular travel between facilities may be required.

  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.
